Great Bear LIVE is an innovative research program and conservation tool that brings live wildlife video and audio streams from the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest to your computer. Since 2013, Great Bear LIVE has been live-streaming to the internet from multiple sites in Heiltsuk territory on the central coast of B.C. This real-time audio and visual technology gives us unprecedented insight into wildlife behaviour on a threatened coastline. The cameras provide live video capabilities from rich river systems to outer coast islands, while the hydrophones stream audio from six underwater locations between Seaforth Channel and Hakai Pass.
The team at Pacific Wild uses this non-invasive approach for a variety of research projects, tracking and identifying cetaceans moving through the area, and documenting rarely-observed wildlife behaviours. We also use this technology as an educational tool, bringing awareness to people around the globe. By sharing the hidden world of the Great Bear Rainforest, Pacific Wild seeks to help people better understand the threats this pristine ecosystem faces and how they can help protect it.
